Exploring South Wales’ highest mountain by night offers an amazing experience, this is also the UK’s first Dark Sky’s Reserve. Weather and clouds permitting, a clear night will provide an ideal opportunity to see the Milky Way, major constellations, bright nebulas and possibly even meteor showers.
Night time walking can give a very different and wonderful view of the Beacons, and if the clouds allow, the outstanding views of the Galaxy above.
Starting off the beaten track, Tommy Jones’ Obelisk is explored by head torch as your qualified Mountain Leader Chris tells the sad story that shocked the community in 1900. Then onwards to Corn Du, to (hopefully) see the moonlight reflecting off the glacial lake at Cwm Llwch. Then expertly led up to Pen y Fan to enjoy exceptional views that the dark skies reserve can provide.
